In its first foray into the Thai Riviera, Orient Express Hotels unveils Napasai along the north coast of Koh Samui. Cast in a far more removed setting than many of the area's top resort properties. Visitors arrive to wild utopia of wild buffalos meandering amongst cashew trees and deserted white sand beach where a sprawling resort known as Napasai awaits. A new-build construction mixes traditional Thai architecture with more modern Balinese aesthetic of integrated pool pavilions and free-from water features that hug the seas.
Interiors mix open-flow architecture with plantation style décor derived from sustainable materials that lend a cushy, but conservative feel than found at the party-minded W Retreat or Zen-modern aesthetic of Six Senses. Given the removed location, the hotels offering of three separate eatery sin addition to a lobby and pool bar mean than a trip into the main town isn't always necessary after a long day at the beach. Additionally, Napasai Spa is one of the largest of its kind in the area with therapies utilizing a mix of Asian healing philosophies and Eastern holistic treatments.
The Room
Napasai is home to 55 private cottages and 14 villas arranged within a hillside tropical forest, Entry-level Seaview Hill Villas are contained within freestanding pavilions with lofty ceilings, spacious architectures and plantation-style décor. Bathrooms are made of poured terrazzo with rain showers and deep-soaking tubs with occasional sea view. Top-of-the-line Beachfront Villas are big enough for small families with private sea-facing gardens, separate living and bedroom area and private pool in select rooms.
